Axarquía: all the beauty of Andalusia comes together here.
Stunning nature, authentic villages, a wonderful climate, friendly people, delicious and authentic cuisine, and the coast within easy reach.
Axarquía is the region southeast of the province of Malaga. This area is located between the city of Malaga to the west, Alfarnate to the north, Nerja to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The entire region is surrounded by high mountains and opens up to the south towards the Costa del Sol.
It is incredibly diverse and offers an incredible variety of culture with picturesque villages, unique folklore, beautiful towns, extraordinary and diverse nature and a varied culinary offering.
The capital of the comarca de la Axarquía is Vélez-Málaga. Sheltered by the Sierre de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama mountain range.
Sheltered from the capricious continental climate, the Axarquía enjoys mild winters and warm summers with many hours of sunshine.
Orchards with mangoes, avocados, lemons, olives, almonds, papayas, cherimoyas and the famous muscatel grape thrive in the subtropical climate and colour the landscape a beautiful green. They are therefore grown in large numbers on the fertile soil in the valleys.
The Axarquía region is home to no fewer than 31 gleaming white villages, where time seems to have stood still and where an unmistakable Arabic atmosphere still prevails.
Long ago, the Moors settled in the sheltered valley where their crops thrive, as you can still see from the castles, forts, watchtowers and water infrastructure. To this day, the region has escaped mass tourism.
